Our First Visitors-The Sean Foley Family

Sean and his family, minus Brock who is serving a mission in Boise, Idaho, took one of their marathon road trips for which they are so famous. They left their home in Liberty, Missouri and drove to Kirtland, then to Niagara Falls, and into Canada to Toronto, Montreal and Quebec among other places. We were a stop along the way. Beautiful, scenic Prince Edward Island was to be our rendez-vous point. Then the fun started.

Thursday
: We left Dartmouth in the morning and drove to the ferry landing at New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. From the ferry on the east side of the island we drove through Charlottetown and then to Summerside where we met up with the Sean Foley family. They had come in from Quebec across the Confederation Bridge, one long bridge. In Summerside we went to dinner, took a quick tour around town, a walk around the bay and then spent the night at Clark's Sunny Isle Motel.

Friday morning: We were off to explore the island and visit Cavendish Beach which is close to the setting for Anne of Green Gables.

Saturday: We started in the morning with a trip to the Temple. First Sean, Vivian and we old folks went through a session. Then the kids joined us and they did some confirmations with Grandpa officiating and some baptisms with their Dad officiating. It was a lovely morning.

We left Wharf Wraps at Eastern Passage and drove to Peggy's Cove but there was quite a change in the weather on the way. By the time we got there it was pouring rain and the wind was whipping. Chicken Grandma Foley didn't even get out of the car but the rest of the crew at least ventured a quick look at the lighthouse and rocky coastline.

Sunday: Sunday was a quiet day. Bright and early Sean had to take Ryan to the airport to fly to Connecticut for a flute workshop (talented guy!). At one o'clock Elder and Sister Foley both had to talk in Church on missionary work and we had a captive audience with our own gang there. After Church it was home to dinner and then a leisurely walk around our very own Lake Banook. (Forgot the camera!)

Monday: It was Natal Day, a Canadian holiday. The sunshine had returned, so we decided to take in some of the parade in downtown Dartmouth.

Then off to another beach, Conrad Beach

and then the ocean

At the end of the day.

We ended the day watching fireworks from our deck and celebrating the birthday of darling Emily and Branden. They are now 17 and next year will be heading off to college.

Tuesday: The Sean Foley family left bright and early leaving behind some great memories. We so enjoyed their visit and can't wait until we have our next visitors.

We missed Shannon and Kenya who were suppose to come too, so now they need to visit!!!

  1. What a wonderful visit and beautiful places to see! I wish I had thought to stow away with them on their adventure. It sounds like so much fun and they are such a great family! I'm also jealous they got to see you guys. I wanna! I love all the pretty flowers and the summery pictures of green and blue. Enjoy it while it lasts, you have a long winter ahead of you. :)

  2. I wish I could climb inside all of those pictures and be there with you all. How cool of you to arrange fireworks for Branden and Emily on their birthday. Not every grandparent would do that. Really beautiful people in really beautiful places!

  4. You will have to ask the Sean family, I didn't go in. They didn't seem to think it was too bad though.
